Winter Wonderland Comes To The Waterfront

If you have family or friends coming into town for the holidays or if you have kids about to go on winter break soon, the Port of Los Angeles has a number of entertaining options for you. Every weekend between December 6 and December 21, there is something fun to do along the waterfront for visitors of all ages.

The opening weekend for Holidays by the Sea events – December 6-7 – will begin with an outdoor concert featuring San Pedro City Ballet and San Pedro High School Glee Club at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, at 6th Street and Harbor Blvd. Starting at 5:30 p.m., families may also enjoy arts and crafts, hot chocolate, cookies and food trucks and a visit from Santa Claus.

At the dock in the public landing of the new Downtown Harbor you will find the tall ship Exy Johnson festooned in her finest. Also on Saturday, Dec. 6, spectators may enjoy the 52nd Annual Harbor Holiday Afloat parade featuring vessels of all shapes and sizes spectacularly decked out for the holidays. For more details on viewing locations in Wilmington, the San Pedro Waterfront, Ports O’ Call, Warehouse #1, Cabrillo and Holiday Harbor Marinas, please visit http://laharborholidayafloat.org/parade-route-2/.

And if that’s not enough to get you in the holiday spirit, revelers may also attend the Holiday Boat Parade party aboard the Battleship Iowa. Prepare to be entertained by music, carolers and a Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Tickets for the party are available for $20 (adults), $10 (children age 6-12) and free for kids age 5 and under.

Witness the Downtown Harbor Plaza outside the Los Angeles Maritime Museum host the Holiday Sail Spectacular and light show featuring family-friendly movies every weekend for 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. showings. Rekindle your love for that good ol’ holiday nemesis with The Grinch Who Stole Christmas on December 7, warm your heart with Jack Frost December 12-14, and set aside the holiday red, gold and green for a lot of blue with The Smurfs Holiday Celebration December 19-21.
