Designers Talk Gaffey ‘Great Street’ Makeover
Last week, the Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative held the first of several workshops seeking public input on the makeover coming to a 1-mile stretch of Gaffey Street between the 110 Freeway entrance and 15th Street, one of the first corridors announced in Mayor Eric Garcetti’s “Great Streets” initiative. Beautifying the street through landscaping, a canopy of trees, new signage, improved store fronts and public art were discussed, as well as mitigating congested traffic points and adding pedestrian and bicycle-friendly enhancements. At least two more workshops will be held this year.
Port of LA Kicks of Independence Day with Cars and Stripes Forever
Thousands of spectators turned out for the Port of Los Angeles’ sixth annual Cars and Stripes Forever car show at the waterfront on Friday night. The popular event featured more than 100 classic cars, a beer garden, water fountain shows, Red Car rides and live entertainment before the night ended with a fireworks show.
Crafted Celebrates Second Anniversary
Over the weekend, Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles marked two years since opening in two WWII-era warehouses, one of which is currently being transformed into a full production brewery and restaurant set to open at the end of this year. To celebrate, the handmade marketplace hosted a special pop up event featuring dozens of vendors, a homemade craft beer festival, and live music and craft making.
Shrek Comes to the Warner Grand
Encore Entertainers opened its spring production of Shrek the Musical at the Warner Grand Theatre over the weekend. The all-ages theatre company will give three more performances next weekend of the 19-song musical based on the hit animated 2001 film.
