Police Warn Against South Bay Purse Distraction Thefts

An NBC4 news report shared surveillance video last week of a woman using a credit card at the Target in San Pedro that was allegedly stolen the same day from the wallet of an unsuspecting shopper at Sprouts Farmers Market. The theft was similar to one that occurred at the Ralph’s supermarket on Western Avenue last year. Police are warning shoppers to be vigilant and not leave their bags unattended.

Buscaino Calls for Investigation into Alleged Street Repair Worker Misconduct

Last week, Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino introduced an emergency motion to investigate allegations of street repair worker misconduct that aired on a CBS2 news report. The motion calls for the Bureau of Street Services to investigate allegations that street repair workers took unauthorized breaks and falsified work logs, and to review its current personnel procedures. Along with Councilman Mitch Englander, Buscaino has lead the proposed $4.5 billion Save Our Streets initiative, which aims to repair broken streets and sidewalks throughout the city.

House Passes Water Bill that would Benefit Port of Los Angeles

A federal bill that would benefit the Port of Los Angeles through millions of dollars of dredging and modernization improvements passed in the U.S. House of Representatives last week. The Water Resources Reform and Development Act would ensure that ports that pay in the most to the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund will benefit the most. The bill is set to go before a vote in the Senate.
