Advertising Sales Executive

Are you a driven sales professional who enjoys working in a high-energy, fast-paced environment? Are you looking for a new opportunity to make some extra money on your own schedule? Then this is the job for you. We’re looking for part-time sales professionals for both San Pedro Today and San Pedro Beacon publications, which includes print and online sales. Position is commission-based salary only.

Ideal candidates will be energetic, personable, outgoing and a great people person with strong sales skills. Strong business contacts in the South Bay (especially San Pedro, Rancho Palos Verdes and Palos Verdes) and publication sales experience is a plus. Although we’re listing this as a part-time position, there is a great opportunity to make this a full-time position with enough time and effort.

Primary responsibilities include: a.) perform cold calls and visit local businesses; b.) grow revenue base from scratch by identifying and closing new business without territory restrictions; c.) provide exemplary customer service/relationship management and consultative selling; d.) accomplish performance objectives on a consistent basis.

Required Skills/Experience: a.) possess a high energy, strong desire to achieve results with a charismatic, positive attitude; b.) minimum of 1-3 years of sales experience; c.) experience in a short selling cycle preferred; d.) online advertising sales background is a plus; e.) highly proficient in Google-based applications (Google Docs); f.) candidates must have reliable transportation; g.) candidates must own a laptop computer and smartphone (iPhone or Android).

Freelance Writers

We are looking for part-time writers/reporters for our monthly features publication (San Pedro Today) and daily online community newspaper (San Pedro Beacon). Ideal candidates will be experienced and very versatile writers and self-editors who can deliver clean copy under short deadlines. They will also be expected to self-develop stories, be investigative and cover events and community meetings relevant to our readership. You will work closely with our editor while developing community news stories and finding new ways to connect to the people within the communities we cover in print, via our websites and through social media. Position is paid per story.

Required Skills/Experience: a.) 1-3 years of journalism experience; b.) ability to work independently to develop stories and problem-solve; c.) a thick skin; d.) can work with a flexible schedule (including evenings, weekends and occasional holidays); e.) able to photograph your own stories; f.) have reliable transportation; g.) highly proficient in Google-based applications (Google Docs); h.) must own a laptop computer and smartphone (iPhone or Android). i.) highly proficient in social media.
