‘Urban Nature’ Blends Southern California Environments with Salvadorean Poetry

"Urban Nature" (photo: Ingrid Dietrich)

For those longing for a taste of Central American culture, the “Urban Nature” art exhibit is the perfect show to curb your cultural artistic craving.

A solo exhibition by local photographer Ingrid Dietrich, “Urban Nature” is a compilation of more than 100 digital and traditional photographs of Southern California nature matched with poetry by Salvadoran poets from the late 1800s to early 1900s.

Many of Dietrich’s images on exhibit have been shown throughout Los Angeles, some have even been published in National Geographic Magazine, among other publications.

The photos will be shown along with works from poets Alfredo Espino, Claudia Lars, writer Arturo Ambrogi and poet /painter Salvador Salazar Arrué. This exhibit puts the photography side by side with select poems in an effort to showcase California’s natural resources, while capturing the playful essence of the Salvadorean poetry.

Dietrich will be representing the Republic of El Salvador as an extension from the international group exhibition Art Without Boundaries, previously hosted at the Croatian Cultural Center in November 2013.

The artist reception will be held May 3 at the Croatian Cultural Center of Greater Los Angeles (510 West 7th Street, San Pedro) starting at 7:30 p.m.
