Last week, the Face of the USA beauty pageant took to downtown San Pedro to launch its search for contestants in Southern California.
On March 6, the San Pedro Convention and Visitors Bureau held a night of fashion and beauty at its location on Sixth Street, showcasing an exhibit of fashion photography shot in San Pedro by Miguel Bejarano titled, “This Corner of the Earth.”
Representatives from the office of Congresswoman Janice Hahn were on hand to kick off the event, which was organized by photographer Ingrid Dietrich. Dietrich, who curates art exhibits at the bureau, is head photographer of the pageant. The night also featured a musical performance by Rogue Elephant.
Participants in the pageant then took to the streets to recruit the “Face of San Pedro” stopping in shops and galleries open for the First Thursday Artwalk.
Face of the USA is a natural beauty pageant open to girls and women ages five to 30 that will take place June 18-22 in Hollywood. The winner will go on to the Face of the World pageant in Paris in November. Proceeds from the pageant support youth scholarships.
