San Pedro Remembers Debbie Marr

San Pedrans gathered at the Croatian Cultural Center of Greater Los Angeles on Saturday to remember the life of Debbie Marr. The beloved, award-winning painter, who depicted a number of scenes in San Pedro, where she had a studio, lost a battle with cancer in January.

Congresswoman Hahn Meets Dalai Lama

Congresswoman Janice Hahn shared a photo with the Dalai Lama last week, when he visited Congress to give opening prayers in the Senate and meet with House Speaker John Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Port Launches Search for New Director, AltaSea Announces CEO

Mayor Eric Garcetti announced a global search for a new executive director of the Port of Los Angeles on Thursday. The headhunting firm Ralph Andersen & Associates has been brought in to find a replacement for Dr. Geraldine Knatz, who retired last year. Earlier in the week, AltaSea announced it picked Rachel Etherington of the United Kingdom-based BLUE Marine Foundation as its CEO. Etherington takes the post overseeing the $500 million dollar future urban marine research center on April 1.

Cal Maritime Wins Fourth L.A. Harbor Cup

Ten sailing teams competed in the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup off the coast of San Pedro over the weekend. The California Maritime Academy took its fourth win, followed by USC in second, and the U.S. Naval Academy in third place.

POLAHS Executive Director Placed on Leave

Port of Los Angeles High School founder and Executive Director James Cross has been placed on paid leave, the Daily Breeze reported last week. The charter school’s Board of Trustees has not disclosed why it placed Cross on leave in late February, but it has since discussed pending litigation as well as new job descriptions of the chief of executive director and principal positions, according to recent meeting agendas.
