Tall Ships Arrive in the Port of Los Angeles
Two replica tall ships set sail in San Pedro this weekend. A number of families participated in the Los Angeles Maritime Institute’s Kids’ Sail Aboard a Tall Ship program on Saturday, where they got hands-on experience learning to sail the wooden brigantines Irving Johnson and Exy Johnson, the City’s official tall ship ambassadors. The event was the first of three more Kids’ Sail days happening next month, with tickets at $25.
Korean Bell Won’t Ring the New Year
San Pedrans won’t get to ring in the new year with the Korean Bell of Friendship on Wednesday. The tradition will be missed in 2014 due to an ongoing restoration project on the bronze bell that won’t be complete for a few more weeks. Mayor Eric Garcetti will be present for the restored bell’s unveiling at a 9:30 a.m. ceremony on January 10. Still happening on New Year’s Day, however, is the 62nd annual Polar Bear Swim at Cabrillo Beach.
