No More Free Holiday Parking in Downtown San Pedro

In case you missed the memo last holiday season, free parking in downtown San Pedro for the month of December won’t be coming back.
That’s because when Councilman Joe Buscaino removed 61 percent of the pesky (and ineffective) parking meters last year, part of the deal was that waiving fees during the holiday season would be no more. Parking is still free on Sundays, however.
“It was one of the concessions getting rid of the 600 meters and having the spaces be free all year round,” says Buscaino’s communications director, Branimir Kvartuc. “But to make parking free during the month of December would’ve been somewhat of a loss of revenue.”
The last time parking was waived downtown during the holiday season was under former Councilwoman Janice Hahn.
“There are 600 spaces that are free and another couple hundred diagonal parking spaces added, so there’s lots of free parking in downtown San Pedro,” Kvartuc says.
